We have recently joined the dog community and I’ve found it reassuring at how many places are dog friendly in Bury St. Edmunds. It’s great that places I enjoy visiting allow dogs, so my puppy can come with me when we head into town, but it’s also lovely exploring new cafes and shops that I know she’ll be catered for aswell. We are so lucky to have a wonderful town like Bury on our doorstep. It makes all the difference when you’re a new dog mum!

Janette Gamble, September 2024
We were "bowled over" by how many establishments had paw stickers in their windows and dog bowls outside. Too many to mention our thanks to individually. Specifically though, we were given a warm welcome on a damp day in the Angel Hotel lounge for lunch and our 4 month wire haired
dachsund was treated like royalty. (A fab lunch for us humans too)
And the Cambridge Building Society made us feel like we were in a tv ad for dog pampering: our pup Charlie went to drink from their bowl but it was empty. A member of staff spotted it and signalled to us. She then ran out, collected the bowl and filled it with water .Smiles all round. And a very happy waggy Charlie pup!

Katharine Rose, September 2024
There are a hundred places where a dog can go on lead in some gardens and join you for mediocre pub grub at lunch. Not many though where you can take them round the Cathedral, then into shops like Hobbs and New Look that are never dog friendly elsewhere, then for some interesting Indian street food (Mowgli)!. Added bonus being that Bury on a Saturday is full of happy dogs enjoying being out with their people, which really adds to the buzz.

Not only are there facilities in close proximity such as daycares, groomers and vets that are all trusted, beloved and caring to our pups, but other places throughout bury make it easy for your dog to be a part of your life and day to day at ease! Caffès and restaurants that are dog friendly make you and your dog comfortable, and the locals are always happy to make a fuss and see dogs walking around the abbey gardens and through the town, it’s a beautiful place to live and the dogs that thrive and have fun there are a huge part of that.!

Not just dog friendly but absolutely welcomed and that makes all the difference 🩷💚
Matthew Abercrombie, August 2024
As a town centre resident, I wish to place a very firm vote AGAINST this move. A year of being ‘dog friendly’ has blighted the town. The incidence of dog excrement on the streets has gone up significantly, the number of dogs fighting and attacking each other has increased & there is now not a café or tea shop that one can go into without the risk of sharing what was hoped to be a quite moment with a barking dog, a dog on a seat or, unbelievably, a dog on a table.
It’s truly awful.
Remember, we’re not all dog lovers.
This is a skewed survey as there’s no option to vote no.
Holly Uprichard, August 2024

Having moved here from a big concrete city that rarely had dogs and owners milling about it is an absolute HAVEN as a dog owner. I've always said you're more likely to find the odd place that isn't dog friendly vs the odd one that is.... dogs are welcome basically everywhere and the town centre is always teeming with our 4 legged friends. I adore it and so does my border collie! He's exhausted after a mull about town, saying hi to all the neighbourly dogs. Even for the times where I leave him at home I love sitting and dog watching. It brings me so much joy as an individual and as a dog owner.
Imogen Warren, September 2023
Bury is such a wonderfully dog friendly town. Not only are there brilliant green spaces to walk with your furry friend, but so many of the shops and businesses actively welcome dogs. My cavapoochon has enjoyed a puppaccino in Midgar, had a bit of my toastie in Wright’s, been charity shopping for new toys in the Dogs Trust shop, and even helped us with a pub quiz at Edmundo’s (well, he ate a biscuit there at least).
