Wilfred’s Cafe
(1 review)
Reasonably priced food to suit everyone in a spotless environment tucked away down the cobbled street Kirkgate. Very friendly and welcoming.

Wilfred’s cafe in Ripon looks like a tiny establishment from the small but charming frontage. The narrow cobbled street which is steeped in history could double as Diagon Alley and, like the rest of Ripon, is a pleasant place for a stroll. The cafe itself is quite a bit bigger than you are expecting inside and the generous spacing between tables is ideal if your four legged companion is on the larger side.
We received a cheery welcome on entering and were told we could sit wherever we liked. We always try to choose a corner table or somewhere that Poppy can be tucked in, out of the way. We could probably have accomplished this at any of the tables in Wilfred‘s due to the sensible layout.
Our order was taken by a friendly lady and our request to slightly modify a couple of things was met without fuss. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
The menu actually delivers more than it promises. Our paninis were full of delicious filling in very fresh bread and were served with beautifully golden chips and a basic but crisp and tasty salad and coleslaw.
I’m reliably informed that the coffee was very good indeed as was my hot chocolate.
There are lots of daily specials on boards along the wall in addition to the comprehensive menu which sounded tempting at reasonable prices.
Sadly Poppy missed out on a sausage treat as they had all gone by the time we visited but she received plenty of fuss and we will endeavour to call in earlier in the day next time. I didn’t actually notice a water bowl anywhere for dogs but it’s possible I could have missed one; we normally have Poppy’s own dish with us as she can be a bit fussy about sharing.
We had spent the morning at Fountains Abbey - a favourite of ours - less than five miles away and this was the perfect stop off to recharge our batteries.
