The Wrinkled Stocking
(2 reviews)
The Wrinkled Stocking is a traditional cafe and tearoom set in the heart of the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country. The tearoom was used as Nora Batty’s house in the long running BBC Comedy and they have plenty of photos and mementos decorating one of the rooms. You can enter the cafe by the back door next to the river going up the steps like Compo, but if you don’t fancy the steps you can walk straight in from the main road. The staff at The Wrinkled Stocking are all very friendly, they provide a table service and we never have to wait very long to get served. At Nora’s place there is an excellent range of breakfasts, sandwiches, lunches and their afternoon tea. My Pawrent is fed and watered for £5-7 for a ‘Yorkshire portion’ serving and I and all furry friends get given a sausage in our own little dish for visiting. Afterwards you can go visit some of the independent shops in the village (even with muddy paws), see other filming locations, enjoy a walk on the hills or even pay your respects to Bill Owen (Compo) and Peter Sallis (Cleggy) at St John's Parish Church Graveyard. You could go on to Marsden Moor, Tunnel End, The Kirklees Light Railway at Whistlestop Valley or you can stoke up before going further afield to the Halifax Piece Hall, Hebden Bridge, Hardcastle Craggs, Shibden Hall or the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Clare Butterfield, August 2024
Staff are always friendly to the pooch (and me) and offer the dog a sausage and water available if required. The cafe is value for money. Lovely place and village with good walks in the area.
Clare Butterfield, September 2023
As soon as we get off the bus my fur’by drags me straight to The Wrinkled Stocking for the warm welcome and his complimentary sausage!
