The Stables
(5 reviews)
A fantastic country pub based on the Forth and Clyde canal welcoming lots of walkers and their pups
Read MoreThe Stables was built to serve the watermen and horses using the Forth and Clyde Canal. When the canal was first built the boats that used it were pulled by horses, as a horse could go a few miles before needing a rest stables were built along the route. The stables would have an Inn on one side where the boatman and his passengers might rest and eat whilst on the other side there would have been equine accommodation with a hayloft above. Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal spring dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires. With fantastic scenic walks along the canal we look forward to welcoming you and your pups!

A great dog friendly place to go with blankets, toys and bowls for the dogs.
Bill Gibb, August 2024
Great, friendly staff and a super dog friendly area with toys treats and water.
Tracy Mackenzie, August 2024
The Stables is such a welcoming place for both humans and dogs. Every dog gets a fuss and a smile from the staff and there are treats and multiple sources of fresh water both inside and out. The pub is on a canal and it's a lovely stop off on a walk. On a warm day there are loads of walkers and cyclists but there is a range of seating so even nervous/reactive dogs can find somewhere for a break.
