Located in the shadows of the magnificent Shipstone’s Brewery, The Lion at Basford in Nottingham has an enviable reputation for cask ales and live music. Its' rustic charm and great ale house ambiance has made it very popular with locals and travelling customers. The pub has won Best Dog-friendly Pub in East Midlands award 2017 & 2018 and The Dog Friendly Pub Award 2021, 2022 and 2023. We have also made it into CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for the last 5 years.
We are dog friendly inside and out. We have dog beds available, plus free treats, plenty of water bowls, dog anchor points inside to attached your dog lead to, dog ice cream for sale and a large grassed garden perfect for all the family.
The Lion has done remarkably well establishing itself as a destination pub for cask ale, craft beer, live music and great food. It’s situated opposite Shipstone Street tram stop and right next door to Black Iris Brewery... so they know a thing or two about beer! A permanent selection of 10 cask ales dominates the bar but an impressive seven craft taps, ten traditional ciders and 40 plus craft cans compliment what the pub has become famous for. Their food is highly rated and a new menu boasts a selection of burgers, pub tapas, dirty fries and signiture wraps with plenty of vegan-friendly options. The Lion is famous for live music and hosts the best of the local music scene three times a week. The pub has its own pub dog Albie a friendly Dobermann who loves a belly scratch! Dog beds, dog treats, poop bags and water bowls are free to use and available all day every day.
