The Akeman

Formerly trading as the Refectory, number 92 on the High Street, Hampton Hill has been transformed into the best kind of contemporary pub, combining great local beers, spirits and fine wines, with freshly cooked, Mediterranean inspired food from an open kitchen.

Food is served daily from 8am. With a strong emphasis on the provenance of our food, we source our meat and poultry from only British farmers who share our passion for quality and sustainability. The same standards apply to our free-range eggs and responsibly sourced fish. Our menu is varied and diverse from classic cuts and burgers cooked to order on our charcoal-fueled Josper grill, and includes a great range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

We serve authentic Neapolitan pizza, handmade by our trained pizzaiolos and cooked in our wood-burning oven. And for families, our bespoke children’s menu offers a variety of nutritious choices and comes with a pack of fun activities to keep the young ones entertained at the table.

In addition to a broad range of cocktails and spirits, we stock wine carefully selected by Enotria & Coe, and beer bought locally from Fullers. The Beech House is also proud sponsor of Teddington Rugby Club Minis & Juniors.

Built on the ancient Roman road of Akeman Street in 1901, the Akeman in Tring reopened its doors in 2007. Our Victorian building was designed by acclaimed local architect William Huckvale, and several original features have been retained, including the Victorian façade and the fireplace in the bar. The wood panelling, full-length windows and warm décor have transformed us into a destination venue located just seconds away from the centre of town.

Our courtyard and decking area comes complete with fireplace and comfortable seating options, while one of Hertfordshire’s most diverse Woodland Trust sites, Tring Park, is a short walk away.

The provenance of our food and drink is equally impressive with our extensive wine list having been compiled with help from Enotria&Coe, a company with a history spanning more than 125 years. In addition to stocking popular beers from Fuller's, we have a selection of locally sourced drinks from Tring Brewery. Traceable from field to fork, our Mediterranean-inspired food is served from 8am, Monday to Saturday, and from 9am on Sunday. Dishes include steaks and fish cooked in our charcoal-fuelled Josper grill, as well as pizzas, pasta dishes and home comforts, like our 12 hour roasted pork belly. For every pork belly dish sold, we donate 25p to the Woodland Trust, and we proudly sponsor Tring Rugby Club and Tring Cricket Club.
