The Brown's Hotel

Dogs: Any

Brown’s Hotel, built in 1752, is an iconic literary address, the social hub of Laugharne and the favourite watering hole of poet and writer Dylan Thomas, who famously left the bar’s phone number as his own. We offer luxurious rooms, the famous bar and our new Penderyn Restaurant.

Brown’s is a hotel of characters – the locals and staff are always up for a chat – and following in Dylan’s footsteps President Carter, Burton & Taylor, Patti Smith, Peter O’Toole, Charles and Camilla, Mick Jagger, Pierce Brosnan, Cerys Matthews and many others have made their way up the three stone steps to the bar.

In 2012, Brown’s Hotel was renovated and refurbished to a very high standard and now offers 13 individually-styled luxurious en-suite rooms with organic wool furnishings and mattresses. The décor and furnishings summon up nostalgic thoughts of vintage values, style and warm Welsh hospitality ensuring that your stay will be as comfortable as possible. Each room has complimentary coffee/tea making facilities and the finest luxury Myddfai toiletries whilst offering up-to-date facilities such as gadget chargers and international power sockets. There is also complimentary wi-fi throughout most of property but please note due to the location of Laugharne, wi-fi can sometimes be slow! We are dog-friendly and also have 2 electric car charging points.

The busy bar, which is popular with the locals, serves nibbles and snacks, real ale, a range of quality wines and Penderyn whisky. Live music is played in the bar every Sunday afternoon and monthly Poems & Pints night are regularly held. When Brown’s Hotel was rated by The Times, they gave it a ‘Cool Factor’ of 9/10. Brown’s Hotel has also been featured in The Telegraph, The Guardian, Tatler and The New York Times.

Laugharne has an ancient history, quirky customs, the ‘Laugharne Weekend’ literary festival, a lively nightlife, estuary walks, a magnificent castle, the Dylan Thomas Boathouse, cafes and shops, and was once described as ‘…the strangest town in Wales’ by Dylan Thomas.

It is!
