- Robert Burns - Ellisland Farm
Robert Burns - Ellisland Farm
Ellisland was the family home of Robert Burns between 1788 – 1791.
Burns chose to build Ellisland at this particular location because of the stunning setting along the side of the River Nith.
This setting provided huge inspiration for Burns and he penned some of his most well-known work whilst living here, including Ae Fond Kiss, Tam o’ Shanter and the unforgettable Auld Lang Syne.
The museum provides free parking from which dogs ( and their owners!) can enjoy a stunning circular walk along the banks of the River Nith, through open fields and a small copse.
The walk is mainly flat and therefore non strenuous – whilst enjoying the sounds of the River Nith visitors can look out for ducks, dippers, kingfishers and if very lucky jumping salmon and otters.
The farm is also dog friendly and provides fresh water in the kitchen.
As Ellisland is surrounded by livestock, dogs do need to be on a lead.
