Hurst Castle
(2 reviews)
One of the most advanced of the artillery fortresses built by Henry VIII: used as a prison for eminent 17th-century captives.

James, May 2024
We parked at Milford on Sea and took the two mile gravel spit walk to the Castle, we met many dogs on our way there.
When we arrived at the castle it was much larger than I expected. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who granted us free access with our English Heritage membership, but even without that the admission fees are not expensive.
We spent several hours exploring the castle, our dog was allowed in all areas. After a thorough look around we visited the cafe, its worth noting that you dont have to pay to enter the castle to use the cafe, but the only toilets are inside the castle.
We had coffee and cake, served by another two very friendly staff, who refilled the dog water bowl they provide and also filled his drinking bottle.
We then took another 45 minute leisurely walk back along the two mile spit, back to the car.
We didnt hear a peep from the dog all evening!

Fab day out, dogs welcome on the small boats over to the castle and in the castle itself.
