Watermill Cottages Ltd
Dogs: 3
Sleeps: 6
Rediscover what life is all about as you relax and unwind in one of our pretty, comfy Watermill Cottages in the unspoilt coastal Gara Valley. Just a 10 minute drive to Slapton Sands, near Dartmouth in the heart of South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
A shallow trout stream, private cottage gardens, shared streamside lawns, orchard & meadows, ancient woods between mill leat & brook, and green lane walks from your cottage door. Set in 6 stunning rural acres yet close to Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Totnes.
We invite you to share the soothing natural energy of our unique and beautiful valley, to relax and revitalise in the heart of mother nature, away from traffic and the white noise of TVs and mobiles for a beautiful, stress-free rural retreat and to experience holidays like they really used to be – away from it all. In a typical steep-sided Devon coastal valley that’s virtually untouched by the modern world (a watermill has been here since medieval times though this one was built in 1754). There’s a whole valley to explore, great for free-range kids – woods, orchard, meadows, & the Gara Brook for paddling, damming, or for pooh sticks or home-made rafts & pirate ships. Freedom to play with imagination away from TV and mobiles. There’s no light pollution so the star-gazing is heavenly. It’s doggy heaven – plenty of walks from your cottage door & almost no traffic, only the postman passing through. Green lane walks from your cottage door and plenty of dog-friendly cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants locally. We really welcome dogs – and are flexible on number, yes, really! A dog is part of your family and they’re just as welcome at Watermill Cottages as you are. We’re at the end of a quiet, high-hedged typical Devon lane with a green lane beyond us so no through traffic. Lovely walks from your cottage door around the unspoilt valley and beyond to The Coast Path. Barleycorn Cottage has a large fenced garden, Crownwheel Cottage has a walled riverside patio leading onto lawn and a wooded stroll by the brook, and Mill Cottage has an open patio a few steps from the shared lawn and stream. Dogs love playing in the large fenced cottage gardens, on the shared streamside lawns, and splashing in the water – it’s a shallow trout stream with plenty of easy ways in. And of course walking round green lanes in the valley and playing on the many dog-friendly beaches locally. Six acres of unspoilt wild nature to enjoy – and if your dog isn’t good off the lead we have a stock-fenced field they can run in – check first that there’s no livestock in there especially at lambing time. There’s a hosepipe in the courtyard if the stream doesn’t do the trick!
