Read MoreTorcross Balcony Apartment is on the beach at Slapton sands in South Devon. The apartment is in the village of Torcross at the southernmost tip of South Devon. Torcross is on the edge of Start Bay, a three mile, dog friendly beach with Dartmouth one way and Start Point lighthouse at the other. Torcross sits on a peninsular which separates the sea from a large fresh water nature reserve, called Slapton Ley. Slapton Ley nature reserve is registered as an area of outstanding natural beauty and a site of special scientific interest. Being on this thin strip of land the apartment has stunning views out of every window with the sea one way and the nature reserve/lake the other, both ways the views is uninterrupted. The apartment is spacious (total 127m2). The living area is open plan with sliding doors leading out onto a large balcony (25 m2). The balcony has panoramic views of the beach and sea. Inside, the kitchen is well equipped with solid oak worktops. The kitchen offers an oak kitchen island with a breakfast bar. The dining table seats 8 and has a view over a fresh water lake. The apartment has leather sofas and smart TV with Roku. The twin room is roomy and has a view of the Lake 'Slapton Ley nature reserve'. The bathroom has a double sided bath and a large shower enclosure (the shower has a window to enjoy the view of the ducks, swans and coots on the Lake while you shower). In the Sea facing bed room the king size bed faces the ocean looking out through patio doors which lead on to a large balcony. Again with 180 degree views of the Start bay. This room has a delightful ensuite shower with a window looking out to start point light house. Start Bay is situated on the coast of South Devon between Salcombe and Dartmouth. Inland from here is the town of Totnes. All three towns have their own individual charm. Salcombe is a natural harbour where you can get a small ferry boat across to some amazing beaches, or you can drive there via Eastportlemouth and park in the national trust car park. Dogs are allowed on these beaches all year. Dartmouth sits on the banks of the river Dart. It is famous for its naval history and is home to the Royal Navy's Officer Collage. Totness is situated at the top of the river Dart, it is a med evil market town, full of beautiful old buildings and architecture. Closer to Torcross are the villages of Beesands and Hallsands. The old fishing village of Hallsands was destroyed in a storm earlier last century. Waves washed the houses away causing the village to be evacuated. The old ruined village can still be visited. Start bay and Slapton Ley is popular with bird watchers, walkers and tourists. The fresh water Ley is home to many different birds, insect, fish and other wildlife. In Start Bay it is common to see Seals, Porpoises and diving Gannets off Torcross beach. In front of the apartment it is possible to launch and keep a small boat. If you have a small boat or Kayaks we would be happy to show you. It is also a great place to fish. Slapton sands is steeped in history, during the second world war the beach was used for practising the D Day landings. Tragically over 600 solders lost their lives when German U boats attacked the troops practising. Now there is a Second World War tank that sits as a monument to the people who lost their lives. It was pulled from the sea in the seventies and now sits on dry land. There are lovely walks in the area, in particular the section of the coastal path from Torcross to Salcombe. The views from Start Point lighthouse are spectacular, on a clear day you can see as far as Exmouth and Portland.
