The Windmill
Dogs: 2
Sleeps: 8
Southwell 5 miles. The Windmill, originally built in 1840, is a stylish home nestled within Nottinghamshire countryside, in the conservation village of Eakring. Surrounded by both stunning historical farming villages and the colliery villages from the now defunct coal mining years, this listed property is ideal for friends and families wishing to relax in a tranquil setting and be close to some of north Nottinghamshire's hidden gems! This superb, high-quality holiday home was lovingly restored by the current owners from a derelict tower in the 1990s, into a spacious and quirky family house, blending the old and the new, with three rooms situated within the Windmill itself. The property consists of a modern two-storey cottage adjoined to the side of the five-storey Windmill, where much of the original machinery can still be seen. The living area is spaced across four floors; there are two bedrooms on the first floor of the cottage and a further two bedrooms on the first and second floors of the Windmill. In addition there is a futon that can be folded out to create additional bed space. The open-plan kitchen and dining area on the ground floor of the cottage has double doors that lead out onto a deck, offering superb views across the fields, leading to an outdoor sitting, eating and socialising area. The kitchen is fitted with both electric oven and hob and an oil fired Aga for those more adventurous chefs! The kitchen and dining area is ideal for great family mealtimes with a large refectory table that comfortably seats ten. There is a charming lounge with media system and plenty of seating options for a relaxing evening in front of the woodburning stove. There is a shower room, family bathroom and a utility/boot room with coat hanging and laundry facilities. The garden consists of a beautifully manicured and multi-level paved area around the house with a pond, which then falls away to a large lawned area, ideal for outside games. While you’re in the area, visit the Robin Hood's tree, the Major Oak, in Sherwood Forest then Rufford Park with its 16th century abbey, lake and grounds. Venture to the pretty town of Southwell with its 14th century Minster, or the National Trust's stunning Clumber Park. Alternatively, take the children to the renowned White Post Farm, Go Ape Sherwood, mountain bike at Sherwood Pines, or try Go Karting or Paint Balling at local centres. Or simply get your trusty map out and walk one of several beautiful local circuits, which your four legged friends will really enjoy!
