High Winder Holiday Cottages

High Winder Cottages offer self catering holiday cottage accommodation near Pooley Bridge, Ullswater, in the Lake District Five lovely self catering cottages including the 17th century house lying high in the Lakeland Fells above the northern end of Ullswater. Approached along a private lane winding upwards through fields and farmland, the cottages overlook the surrounding woods and countryside. They enjoy direct access onto the fells and afford a degree of peace and tranquillity which is rarely found. The surroundings provide a wealth of wildlife with resident red squirrels using feeders near the cottages, which are considered by many visitors to be the highlight of their holiday, visiting badgers and deer as well as numerous farm, woodland and moorland birds. From High Winder there are quite exceptional panoramic views over the Lowther, Eamont and Eden valleys towards the distant Pennine hills. The views extend on clear days from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales to the hills of the Scottish Borders to the north whilst a gentle 10 minute walk from the grounds provides stunning views down the length of Ullswater towards Helvellyn and embracing much of Northern Lakeland. Although secluded High Winder is readily accessible and conveniently situated for visiting much of the Lake District as well as the beautiful Lowther and Eden valleys.The Scottish Borders and Hadrian's Wall to the north are easily accessed via the M6. Pooley Bridge at the foot of Ullswater from where the 'steamers' ply the lake, is just a few minutes drive whilst the lovely village of Askham is a little nearer. Both villages have good village shops, pubs etc. The market town of Penrith 15 minutes away by car provides excellent shopping facilities whilst Keswick, the principal tourist town of Northern Lakeland, is just a 30 minute drive with Windermere and Ambleside, over Kirkstone Pass, at the far end of Ullswater.
