Wells

Dogs are banned from a 200-yard stretch of the beach between the beginning of May and the end of September. At nesting time areas of the beach are roped off to protect nesting birds and people are asked to keep dogs on leads for the same reason. Holkham beach has the same seasonal restrictions. Dog owners are asked to keep dogs on leads until they get on to the beach, and to clear up any mess.

The Beach is huge and joins up with Holkham beach where you can run along the sand and walk back through the trees. Plenty of space to get away from other people and have a quiet time. Lovely beach huts to hire too if you wanted to spend the day on the beach and the RNLI have a new station just opened which welcomes visitors . If you walk to Holkham beach they too have a Lookout cafe which is dog friendly and also if you have enough energy you can walk to Holkham Hall which too has plenty of walks and café to explore. Camping is available and caravans are available to Hire at Wells so you can keep the car in one spot and explore with your doggies . The sea is shallow and when the tide goes out it leaves waterways to swim in and walk across at times . The tide does come in quickly but there is plenty of warning by a horn to let you know if has turned .

We took our eldest dog, Pepper, there shortly after our wedding. It was a bit of a long walk from the overflow car park but my goodness was it worth it. The sandy beach seemed to go on for ages and she absolutely loved playing in the water and making new friends on beach. You get the best of both worlds with a little woodland area next to the beach and the beach huts look adorable. There was a dog friendly café but we brought a picnic and sat on the beach with our dog and admired to views. We didn't want to leave, neither did Pep. We made some great memories there and took a lot of photos. We cannot wait to go back there with Pepper and her new little sister, Cherry.

A huge expanse of sand when the tide is out and no matter how busy the town is, you can always find your own space on the beach. When the tide is in there is still plenty of sand to walk on. The beach is backed by pine trees so you can walk one way on the beach and come back through the pine forest, which is part of the Norfolk Way.

The Beach Café is great. Very dog friendly with a water bar for dogs in Summer, and sells dog treats and accessories for dogs.
